Community Free Wi-Fi
Exciting News! Our free public Wi-Fi network has been switched on across the centre of Bellingham - initially from around the Black Bull through to Fountain Cottage including Manchester Square, Lock-Up Lane and Station Yard. Inside of the Town Hall, Reed Hall and St Cuthbert's Church are also covered.
We've also just launched a new network in Falstone too bringing mobile internet and Wi-Fi Calling to the village for the first time! Coverage is currently from around the riverside past the Village Hall and Playground through the centre of the village past the Tearooms, car park to around the Black Cock and bus stop.
And we're not stopping there! We are rolling out across Kielder, starting with the Border Park RFC ground with more areas to follow!
Our latest additions are Barrasford Village Hall and Birtley Village Hall where we have partnered with our friends at B4RN - Broadband for the Rural North to cover the halls with an ultrafast network.
We are also now live in Otterburn Village Hall alowing them to expand their hire offering further.
Look for the signs above around the villages or search for any of the following networks in your phone settings when you are out and about.
#Bellingham Free Wi-Fi
#Falstone Free Wi-Fi
#Kielder Free Wi-Fi
#Barrasford Free Wi-Fi
#Birtley Free Wi-Fi
#Otterburn Free Wi-Fi
Choose the network from the list, accept the t's & c's and click the Get Online button to connect.
The new networks have partial power redundency so in the event of power failures (which happen here a lot!) the network in and directly around the Village or Hall Hall will stay up for around 48 hours allowing residents to access emergency and power company information online as well as make calls.
During Storm Arwen in 2021 parts of the area were without power for almost a week and with the move by BT to Digital Voice as well as the removal of Payphones in the area, a large number of people lost their home phone connection as well as their internet access. As the local halls are an emergency hub for the surrounding area it gives residents a place to go to access online information as well as make calls etc in the event of another similar situation.
We are planning on expanding the footprint of the existing networks over the coming months and will update this page as new areas go live.
Do you manage a Village Hall that could be connected?
If you are part of a village hall or other local committee in the North Tyne & Redesdale area and would be interested in a better Wi-Fi solution for your hall, users or visitors as well as providing potential emergency communications resilience please get in touch using the Contact Us link.
